Ceremony Information

The Phi Beta Kappa initiation ceremony is traditional but brief, and is followed by a reception. We hope you will attend and invite your parents, partner, or other guest. Information packets, key order forms, a member handbook, and a ribbon to wear with your academic regalia at commencement will be distributed at the initiation ceremony. Business casual attire is preferred.

Date: Wednesday, May 15, 2019
Time: 5:00-6:00 p.m. ceremony
Reception: 6:00-6:45 p.m.
Place: MOVED TO WRIGHT HALL MAIN THEATER
Parking: See Wright Hall on the Campus Map along with parking options.

  • Students should arrive between 4:30 and 4:45
  • Ceremony begins at 5:00
  • Pick up materials at the front table and print your name on the blank card (we use these to read your name during the ceremony, so write a pronunciation guide for the presenter, if you think it’s necessary)
  • Find a seat in the area designated for initiates (all initiates sit together in a group so you can walk across the podium area one by one to receive congratulations, handbook and ribbon)
  • Ceremony ends at 6:00; refreshments are served

New members will be asked to sign our chapter Membership book. You may pick up your certificate after the ceremony (if available); otherwise we’ll let you know where to pick it up later.

If you have not registered online yet but are now interested in joining, you can still pay your membership fee online and come to the ceremony to sign the membership book. If you can't attend the ceremony you can still become a member; it is not mandatory. Please RSVP for the ceremony if you plan to attend but haven’t yet responded.
