Join Phi Beta Kappa

Welcome to Phi Beta Kappa! Our chapter at UC Davis is called Kappa of California.

Election to Phi Beta Kappa is a nationally recognized honor. Only about 10 percent of the nation's institutions of higher learning have Phi Beta Kappa chapters. And only about 10 percent of the arts and sciences graduates of these distinguished institutions are invited to join The Phi Beta Kappa Society, which makes the invitation process one of the most selective in the nation.

We send invitations to the campus email account of eligible juniors and seniors each spring. If you have been invited to join Phi Beta Kappa, please look at our enrollment tips and see How to register online for step-by-step instructions.

There is a one-time fee to register, after which you will remain a member of Phi Beta Kappa for life. We invite you to attend our induction ceremony in the spring. Each student who has been invited into Phi Beta Kappa and has joined the Society receives a certificate of membership and a ribbon insignia to wear at his or her commencement ceremony. The best way to get these tokens of membership is to attend the initiation ceremony, but if you cannot attend, alternative arrangements are possible.

The one-time registration fee covers the true cost of establishing your membership locally and in the national office in Washington, D.C. You remain a member of Phi Beta Kappa for life and receive The Key Reporter as long as you keep your address updated. Please read Information for Nominees to learn more about the advantages of membership in Phi Beta Kappa.
